The Swallow’s Nest
When her Mom dies unexpectedly, Ida decides to become a doctor in order to save people’s lives. One day, Ida’s father, now a famous writer, re-appears in her life. The girl gets a chance to break free from her cruel and narrow-minded aunt. Her dad takes her to a luxurious house in the Moscow suburbs. Soon Ida realizes she is not wanted there – her stepmother and stepsister hate her and her dad is too concentrated on his work to notice it. The only close person is her stepbrother but even he leaves her. The official version is that he wants to build a career on his own but in fact he runs away from his sincere but illicit love for his stepsister.
Ida doesn’t let life break her spirit. She becomes a great student and then finds a wonderful job, gets married and has children. It is as if Ida’s personal success reflects what the country is going through recovering from the crisis of the 1990s. The only thing that is missing in her life is her long lost love.
