The series is set both in St. Petersburg with its numerous rivers, canals, bridges, and beaches and in the coastal waters of the Gulf of Finland. Staff Sergeant Igor Voloshin (by Dmitry Lugovkin) has been seconded for service to St. Petersburg to help local Water Police unit. Once in a new place, he tries to demonstrate his skills in practice, to earn the respect of Captain Marinin (by Igor Botvin) and at the same time to win the favor of the third team member, lovely Oksana (by Mariya Kapustinskaya).
Each episode is a separate story following the investigation of various incidents. The team will come across a ‘drowned man’ who has decided to take revenge on his murderers, will protect the city from a number of poisoning cases and co-operate with an unusual witness, a dog. Not a day of their busy life goes by without an adventure either at work or in personal life.

“‘Crosscurrent’ is the show about the beautiful city of St. Petersburg and its courageous Water Police,” line producer Mikhail Vavilov says. “Filming for the most part was done on the water with the help of cameraman’s and film powerboats. A distinguishing feature of the show is that it has much more exterior scenes than interior. Since our characters are always on the water aboard the powerboat, we are able to show viewers how particularly beautiful and unique St. Petersburg is from the water.”
