BANFF 2010 NOMINEES ARE UNVEILED

Moscow, April 12, 2010. Russian World Studios, one of the leading film and television production companies in Russia, today announced that its 2009 December release "Palm Sunday" is now in competition for BANFF World Television Festival "Rockie" Award 2010.

The 31st BANFF World Television Festival unveiled 2010 BANFF World Television Awards Nominees at MIPTV on Sunday, April 11th, and posted the full list on its official web-site later on April 12th.

The Award is aimed at celebrating outstanding work by international TV creators, and it gains itself more and more popularity and credibility each year. In 2010 BANFF submissions saw a rise by 13% with the number of entries mounted to 900 projects from 43 countries. The nominees were selected by 68 jury panels from more than 30 countries.

Russian World Studios (RWS) production "Palm Sunday" is nominated for "Rockie" Award in Drama Mini-Series Category. Other nominees of this category include "Diamonds" (Canada; produced by Sienna Films Productions X Inc., Rough Cut Pictures Inc., Love Reigns (Pty) Ltd., Rough Productions Ltd. For CBC, Canal+, ABC), "Flesh and Bones" (Belgium; produced by Woestijnvis in association with VRT for VRT), "Occupation" (UK; produced by Kudos Film and Television in association with BBC for BBC), "The Krupps - A Family Between War and Peace" (Germany; Moovie - the art of entertainment GmbH in association with LALA Filmproduktions gesellschaft mbH, ORF for ZDF German Television), and "The Voices of the Pamano" (Spain; Televisio de Catalunya in association with Diagonal TV, Mallerich Films Paco Poch and Television Espanola for Televisio de Catalunya).

"Palm Sunday" (8 х 52 min.), directed by Anton Sivers, is a historical drama set in the USSR in 1970s and in Russia in 1990s that follows the tragedy of life of a talented but common person in the totalitarian society. The provocative theme entailed debates and discussions in Russian society during the project's broadcast on Channel One.

Olga Sinelshchikova, Russian World Studios VP International, comments: "We are glad that Russian productions are now able to compete at international level. This is a result of many factors, such as a growth in the number of professional writers, actors, directors in Russia, which affected the overall quality of produced content."

Another RWS production, "Atlantis", was nominated for BANFF Television Awards in Best Telenovela and Serial Program Category in 2008.
