Dmitri Dmitrievich Meskhiev
Dmitri Meskhiev is the current Chief Producer for Russian World Studios, one of the leading film and television production companies in Russia, and is responsible for all creative decisions concerning RWS projects in development, production and post-production. Meskhiev joined RWS in 2008 as the Head of a newly opened RWS St. Petersburg studio, and was promoted to his current position in November 2009.
Before joining RWS Meskhiev had directed over 10 films and produced 15 features, which established him as one of the most prominent figures in Russian film industry. His selected filmography as a director includes “Gambrinus,” the winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Valencia International Film Festival in 1990; “Over the Dark Water,” the winner of the Silver Award for Best Director at the Taormina Film Festival in 1993; “The Arrival of a Train,” the winner of FIPRESCI Prize at the Open Russian Film Festival Kinotavr in 1996 and other awards; “Mechanical Suite,” nominated for the Best Director Award at the Russian Film Academy Nika Awards in 2002; “Our Own,” the winner of Grand Prix Golden St. George and Silver St. George for Best Director at Moscow International Film Festival in 2004, the Dialogue prize at the East European Film Festival in Cottbus, the Russian Guild of Film Critics Golden Aries Award, and the Russian Film Academy Nika Awards in 2004; and “Seven Stalls.”
During his tenure in RWS, Meskhiev produced such projects as “Palm Sunday,” “Captain Ryumin’s Personnel File,” “Obsessed,” “A Woman’s Word,” and “Golden Trap”. He also continues his career as an independent director and finished a feature “A Person by the Window,” which is scheduled for release in 2010.
Meskhiev holds a degree from All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography and is a member of the Producers Guild of Russia, and the chairman of the St. Petersburg Filmmakers Union. Meskhiev was granted a title of an Honored Art Worker of Russia.
