Andrei Vadimovich Smirnov is the current CEO of Sistema Mass Media, a subsidiary of JSFC “Sistema,” the largest diversified holding company in Russia. In 2007 Russian World Studios, one of the leading film and television production companies in Russia, which Smirnov co-founded in 1998, joined Sistema.
Smirnov started his career in 1988 as the director of Vzglyad (“The View”), a television program produced by the Central Television Youth Editorial Board. He also worked for “Independent Television” (“Avtorskoe Televidenie”), an independent television company, and the “Business Russia” TV station before becoming the CEO of “D.R. INFORM,” an information agency, and later deputy CEO and Program Director for “Russia,” the Russian State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK) Channel.
After founding Russian World Studios with Yuri Sapronov in 1998, Smirnov became CEO of the company in 2003. After RWS joined with Sistema, Smirnov stayed on as CEO until early 2008, when he became CEO of Sistema Mass Media, a media company specialized in media content and advertising production, and which is also a subsidiary of JSFC Sistema.
While at Russian World Studios, Smirnov produced such popular projects as the television series “Sea Patrol,” “The Champion,” “Atlantis,” “Cobra,” “Zona,” and “Poor Anastasya,” produced by Sony Pictures Television; and the feature films, “Antidope,” “Kaleidoscope,” “Icon” and “Spirit,” Joseph Fiennes’ directorial debut.
Smirnov is a graduate of Moscow State Industrial University.
